This cartoon clearly shows how our marijuana doesn't cause as much of a problem on our economy as spending a ridiculous amount of money on a prison meant for holding said drug users. If marijuana was made legal allowed for recreational use there would be no crime and prisons would be not be as filled up as they are. I can only see one reason as to why cannabis is illegal. Police officers and prisons and jails are being funded to stop can punish these "drug abusers". If it were to be decriminalized all these funds would be taken away. This is morally and ethically wrong and something should be done.

I agree with the fact that it is ridiculous that an obscene amount of money is spent housing people in jail simply because they were in possession of a pretty much harmless drug, such as marijuana.
ReplyDeleteI agree as well. Hard earned money from the citizens of the United States should not be wasted on people who decide to use marijuana. This money should be going towards keeping the real criminals in jail and serving justice. What someone decides to do with their life, as long as it doesn't interfere with the safety of anothers, should be no one elses business.
ReplyDeleteAs Ashley Perez said, the money spent on keeping these "violators" behind bars should be spent on people who are truly violators of the law: the real criminals who have murdered others, committed fraud, etc. Moreover, the money can be spent virtually anywhere else. If, and only if, marijuana does not endanger the wellbeing of the society, then the money should be invested elsewhere. This is what the political cartoon is essentially saying. The citizens of the United States, as a whole, are being implicitly affected by these institutions because their taxes are funding these unnecessary joints instead of crucial matters.
